Main research areas
My research focuses on the sociocultural meanings of religion, ethnicity and nationalism. My main research interests are socio-cultural memory and Jewish identity and humour. My research methodology is based on participant observation in cultural anthropology combined with recent interdisciplinary social science approaches. My fieldwork has been conducted in Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Israel and Hungary. For the last two years I have been leading a research project (Research on Transgenerational Holocaust Memory in Central Europe) funded by the Visegrad Fund. The research aims to process and interpret translocal meanings of Holocaust memory using qualitative social science methods in Central and Eastern Europe. I will continue this research in the coming years.
